Hours 

Permanent

  • Up to 15 hours/week (14 client contact + 1 administrative) - flexible based on client/MT availability
  • At least one weekend day + weekday after school hours (3:00-7:00pm) - flexible based on client/MT availability

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Adjunct Music Therapist works one-on-one and in group treatment settings with clients of varying ages and diagnoses in order to address functional goals through music. In addition to clinical work, the role has opportunities for supervising (as described above), receiving supervision from senior team members, as well as potential for community outreach work in Northern Colorado. Works in collaboration with FMS music therapy staff, coordinators, and Directors to achieve the established goals and objectives guided by the organization’s mission statement. This position will start with 5-7 hours per week of maternity leave coverage with the option to grow and expand the applicant’s permanent music therapy client base to 15 hours as described above.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assess new clients and develop treatment plans based on their individual needs.
  • Plan and implement individual and group music therapy services to clients of varying ages, diagnoses, and needs.
  • Take accurate and timely data in provided tracking software, as well as regularly re-assess and provide progress reports for current clients (software training will be provided prior to beginning client contact).
  • Communicate efficiently and consistently with clients and caretakers regarding music therapy services. 
  • Organize and maintain a  schedule of appointments and meetings.
  • Follow all State of Colorado requirements for keeping the PASA designation current and ethical. Participate in monthly training per PASA guidelines.
  • Attend monthly music therapy meetings and attend client service plan meetings (subject to availability). Regularly communicate with supervisors and music therapy team regarding day-to-day operations, programming, staff responsibilities, and client welfare.
  • Engage in opportunities to propose new programming and outreach services for therapy while also working to enhance and expand existing services.
  • Assist with maintenance of music therapy rooms, instruments, and other inventory. Give input for additional purchases required/desired for music therapy services. 
  • Represent FMS at weekend outreach opportunities in the community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Minimum Required Education: bachelor’s degree in music therapy from an accredited program.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Board Certified (MT-BC) by the certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). 
  • Minimum Experience: Completion of music therapy internship prior to hiring; 0-3 years of direct client contact music therapy experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: some text
    • ability to work collaboratively and create a team-oriented environment.
    • ability to prioritize/manage a variety of often unrelated tasks; willingness to assume tasks as required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to independently maintain own schedule, including rescheduling canceled sessions when applicable and keeping scheduling software up to date.
  • Must be familiar with FMS HIPAA compliance practices and protocols before scheduling clients.  

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of programs, services, and best practices to support clients.
  • Knowledge of local community and human services resources.
